Volunteer Spanish Academy Home
It seemed basic at first (instructor's lesson), but then I realized that my instructor was starting from the beginning, much like American schools. I enjoyed learning the basics, because some of it was never taught in regular Spanish courses in the States. I enjoyed the midmorning events of touring the city and practicing my Spanish . It was a casual way to practice. It was beneficial. Sara seemed very knowledgeable, especially about the city of Xela. She was very patient and would explain slowly Spanish that I did not understand. Host family's living environment was very different from living in the United States, but I believe that my room was adequate for me. It was a good space. Senora would like to eat with the students or sit with the student to have them practice Spanish. I think that it was very beneficial and a good amount of quality of interaction. Food was delicious. Needed some getting use to, but the food cooked was good. Nancy T, USA It was one of the best vacations my daughter and I have ever been. We were both placed in the exceptional family who were loving, kind, and made us a part of their lives. I got the feel of what it would be like to live in the Guatemalan culture. I am a retired teacher and I thought that the instruction was excellent. Instruction was not simply based on the grammar books, but also on discussions about current affairs, differences in countries and also learning about the cuture of Guatemala. My daughter and I also participated in the afternoon cultural activities. We can now salsa, merengue, and son with the best of them!! Jane T, USA |
