How do you feel about your host family’s…
1) Living environment for you?
Felt that it was very comfortable... sufficient privacy but not excluded. The showers were... well awlful but I think they would be the same anywhere. (It has been repaired.)

2) Amount and quality of interaction with you?
HUGE. It was great - we would sit after dinner and talk for hours. The daughter took us shopping. We went to mass with them... it was incredible. We really felt welcomed and part of the family. Couldn't have been better.

3) Foods for you?
Some foods were incredible, others were not what I was used to but that's part of the experience.

4) Would you like to stay in a different host family? YES / NO If YES, please let us know what the host family can do to improve. NO... this family was great b/c there were kids my age... little kids to play with, the older parents. and friends and family were always there.

1) Please describe your daily volunteering activities.
A school 1- 6 grades in a very remote little town. We taught 3rd graders in the 2 room, 2 teacher school. 1-2 graders in one room. 3, 4, 5, and 6 in the other with one teacher - so we took 3rd graders.

2) What was the most difficult aspect of this experience?
Getting there. It is a very large and strenuous trip which was frustration. Also I was just kind of given 3 graders w/o much planning or activities for 4 hours.

3) What was the most rewarding aspect of this experience?
Having the kids really get excited about you being there and playing with you. Seeing them learn things that you taught them.

4) What would you say to a future volunteer?
Bring things. We could only be there a few days so I wish I could have left more (pencils, crayons, notebooks, etc) that would have been just as helpful.

5) In overall, how do you feel about your volunteering experience in Guatemala?
I wish I could have stayed longer. Really help plan lessons or bring books. I feel that I got just was much out of it as the kids did.
