The Chiquilajá School Project. It will be a truly humbling experience to witness the poverty and hardship of the students, teachers and families in Chiquilajá. The children are enduring familial and community poverty and face a general lack of parental support to attend the school. The Chiquilajá school is led by LETICIA SACALXOT, our volunteer coordinator. The school structure and curriculum are continually evolving, thanks to the support we receive from program participants. More than anything else, your generosity helps these children realize that someone cares. Help us keep the teacher in the school. The founder / teacher of the Chiquilajá School, Señora Santa Teresa was fired by the local government in April since the school didn't meet the minimum student enrollment number. She has been building the school since its beginning and if she leaves now, the school will cease to exist. Fortunately, we have been able to pay her salary up to this summer thanks to generous donations from our program participants. We are working now to increase the student attendance for the next school year starting Jan. 08. Meanwhile, please help us keep her in school until December! |
